Jennifer Tavares was born in Pawtucket, RI and began her dancing career at the age of 3. From the age of 5 she studied under Donna Crowe at the Donna Crowe School of Dance. Throughout her 9 years dancing under Donna Crowe she competed up and down the East Coast from Maine to Florida winning many national titles and recognitions that extended to Las Vegas. At the age of 15 Jennifer began to study under Susan Buchinni of Dance Arts in Cumberland, RI. While continuing to study dance and competing under the direction of Susan Buchinni, Jennifer began her teaching career at the age of 16. She taught many types of dance for Dance Arts which included; Lyrical, Acrobats, Tap, and Jazz. After leaving Dance Arts, Jennifer minored in dance at the University of Rhode Island. Once arriving in North Carolina for the first time in 1999 Jennifer began teaching multiple classes for the Charlotte Bloom School of Dance in Fayetteville. Unfortunately, the arrival of children cut her teaching time short. In being a military spouse and moving often, Jennifer left the world of dance until arriving back in North Carolina in 2008 when she spent one season teaching for Miss Erika’s school of dance on Fort Bragg. It was then that Jennifer became a member of the Southern Dance Explosion team. She spent two seasons as a member of the faculty prior to moving overseas. Now arriving back from Europe, Jennifer is once again sharing her love of dance with the students at Southern Dance Explosion.
